Por, pelo, pela, para, pro, and pro can be quite confusing for people who don't speak Portuguese as a first language.
It'll be easier for you to grasp what the difference between those words is if you remember the "lexical chunks" - the way Brazilians usually combine these words. If you just associate them with their translations in English, you'll probably end up mixing them up.
